Hooligan Factory

Earlier this year one of our troop was invited to the Oceana nightclub in Watford to visit one set of The Hooligan Factory, the “world’s first movie spoofing the football hooligan genre”, and left hugely optimistic for the end product. Not only were the usual genre signifiers firmly in place – the right trackies and trainers, some crude facial hair, a few twitching nutcases dotted about the set etc – the script was good. Better than good. We witnessed a scene between the top boys of rival firms – including Tony Denham, Leo Gregory and reformed ICF-er Cass Pennant – having a row about whose biography should come out first. Like we said, it hits the right notes. Nick Nevern directed and co-wrote the film with Michael Lindley, and Jason Maza [pictured] played the lead and produced alongside Altitude Film Entertainment. Altitude has recently licensed The Hooligan Factory to Universal Pictures International Entertainment (UPIE), the international home entertainment division of Universal Pictures, for multiple territories, including the UK where the film will be released in 2014. We’re expecting good things, especially as the lead reportedly spends 90% of the movie wearing our gear.

“Danny wants something more. Expelled from school and living in his grandfathers flat, he longs to live up to the image of his estranged father Danny Senior.Sent to prison for force feeding a judge his own ‘syrup’ Danny Senior was a legend and Danny is looking for a way to emulate his father’s achievements and rise to be “top boy.”

Meanwhile, in Wormwood Scrubs prison, legendary football hooligan Dex is about to be released. Dex is on a quest of his own, one of vengeance against his nemesis and rival firm leader The Baron. But when Danny and Dex’s paths cross, they embark on a journey as old as hooliganism itself.

Dex, Danny and The Hooligan Factory travel the length of the country on a mission to re-establish their firm’s glory days. However, the police are closing in and we get a sense that the Hooligan Factory’s best days may be behind them, but with Danny on their side, and Dex finding his old form, who knows where this may lead?

After all, it’s a funny old game…”
